About three weeks ago I switched my workout routine back to hypertrophy from strength training.

My routine for strength sets was an ascending/descending pyramid of 4, 5, 6, 5, and 4 reps. I was training using the 25 rep rule. My strength increased dramatically however I began to lose some mass so I switched back to hypertrophy.

My routine for hypertrophy started out as descending sets from 15, 12, 9, 6 to 13, 11, 9, 7, 5 and finally to 19, 16, 13, 10. The latter has proven to be the best scheme. I rest 120 seconds between every set during hypertrophy stages unless I am try to lose body fat (by resting 60 seconds max.).

More recently I’ve been looking into alternating strength/hypertrophy week by week but that’s later. Meanwhile I’m sticking with this routine.

What are your thoughts on alternating week by week?

My last week off from the gym has proven to be too long of a rest period for me.

My first day returning to the gym made me feel like I regressed during my week off. I felt weak, undernourished, and just flat out horrible. Day two, three, and four were all about retraining my body for my workout routine. I couldn’t just pick up where I left off.

This leads me to believe that the general rule of thumb—taking a week off from working out will allow your body to recover—is just too much of a break. For now, I will not “rest” for more than 3 days anymore.

So lately Carrier IQ has been a hot topic in the tech world. They supply wireless carriers and phone makers with software that hides itself from the device’s operating system (rootkit) and then monitors various aspects of the device’s usage.

CIQ has been confirmed to have software installed on iPhone (although Apple has stated that the software is dormant and is going to be removed in a software update), HTC handsets, and according to CIQ’s website 141 million devices in total.

See this MSNBC news article for more info.

My reaction to this was simple: WTF? I can’t believe this is even “legal.” This so-called diagnostic software is being hidden from view, from you and the OS. If it is simply used for diagnostics then why is it hidden? It’s malicious. RIM, Nokia, Verizon, and now Apple seem to be the only companies with a backbone and do not use this malicious software in their products. Props to them.

CIQ and any device makers who use this CIQ software should be reprimanded and customers awarded damages. Period.

Apologies for the delay, I decided to take the week off of blogging before I went in full force. Now jumping right in.

This project is an iOS app aimed at bodybuilders and trainers who need an app that does mainly one thing: records progress.

I was a huge fan of iFitness and FullFitness but both of those apps have been discontinued for iOS. This is what lead me to begin thinking about developing my own app.

This is the first iOS app I will have ever developed—notice the “will have.” I am still brainstorming ideas. I have a basic user interface in mind. And this is where I believe FullFitness gets it right. It is simple, to the point, and aesthetic.

For now though I will say that the main challenge I will face is that I haven’t programmed in years and Obj-C is not one of the languages I had studied. I had studied C though, and since Obj-C is a superset of C then I don’t foresee any issues.

Wish me luck! And let me know what you think. I’ll keep everyone posted.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a blog. Back then blogs were still pretty much new and nobody really even knew the purpose of a blog. This time I’ve decided to keep things “fresh” by posting at least once a day. I’m not interested in politics or celebs mostly, I’m going to post about my passions: bodybuilding, technology, and of course my progress in creating a new iOS app.

More info on the app development tomorrow though. Have a fantastic day, everyone.
